Welcome to Puffins!
We hope that you all had a fantastic summer and are feeling refreshed, ready for a busy term!
This term in Puffins we will be going back in time to the Anglo Saxon period. We will be using a variety of sources to explore who the Saxons were and where they came from. We will be evaluating the reliability of different sources as we use them. As part of this we will be looking at Saxon art, music, legends and poetry including learning the story of King Arthur. To conclude our topic, we will collate everything that we have learnt in a Saxon smash!
As writers we will begin by looking at Saxon myths and legends with a particular focus on the tales of King Arthur. We will look at describing the characters and setting, eventually writing our own Saxon legends! Alongside this, we will be looking at the year 2/3 grammar objectives and how we can begin to make our writing more exciting.
As mathematicians we will be reinforcing and extending our work on place value up to 1000 with an increased focus on using mathematical language as well as symbols to represent numbers. Later in the term we will be working on addition and subtraction and using manipulatives to demonstrate reasoning and give explanations for thinking. All children will have individual targets based on number facts and times tables which they will be expected to practice at home each week.
Homework: In Puffins, homework is handed out on a Wednesday and is collected on a Monday. Alongside this we will have weekly spellings and times tables targets to practice. Please encourage your child to practice these at home 🙂
Spellings can also be practiced using the Spelling Shed app/website. https://www.spellingshed.com/
Times tables can be practiced using times tables rock stars! https://ttrockstars.com/login
