Welcome to (Millennium) Falcons’ Class!
This term, our topic continues to be the Romans and their impact on Britain. We will be creating Roman clay masks and designing and creating our own mosaics in the form of a collage.
The children in Falcons and Kingfishers classes will continue to be taught in Year 6 and Year 5 Learning Groups for the first 3 weeks of the term. After this the children will be taught English and Maths back in their own classes as learning groups finish. At this point, homework will once again be set by the class teacher. Spellings will be set weekly and times tables assessed regularly.
The year 6s will be taking their Sats during the week commencing Monday 8th May. The timetable for papers is as follows:
Monday – Reading Paper
Tuesday – Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar Paper
Wednesday – Maths Arithmetic Paper 1, Reasoning Paper 2
Thursday – Reasoning Paper 3
Friday – BBQ!
Thank you so much for your continued support with listening to your children read. Reading with your child at home has proved to have a substantial impact on your child’s comprehension and writing skills. This term we are asking the children to read a total of 14 times. All year 5 reads must be with an adult. Year 6s must have at least one reading session with an adult each week, but still need to read at least 3 times in total. Please note down all reading in the yellow reading records. If the children read 3 times in a week (at home), they will receive a treat on Fridays.
In PE, the children will be coached by a professional South African cricket player who is working for Biddestone cricket club. They will also be learning different track and field skills in athletics. After Sats, we will be commencing our ‘Golden Mile’ whereby we will aim to walk/run a mile each day.
Year 6s – don’t forget it is our leavers trip at the end of the term. More details to follow! Also, don’t forget the BBC ‘Street Auction’ on Saturday May 20th. Some of our children will be participating in the dance or choir so it would be great to have your support!
We look forward to a short, but busy term!
Thank you for your continued support.
