Redland Primary School

We all say we can, and we do

RE and Collective Worship

At Redland School RE always starts from the pupils’ own perspective and experiences. We aim to ensure the pupils’ knowledge, ideas, values, beliefs and spirituality are recognised and articulated. The Wiltshire Agreed Syllabus for Key Stage 1 and 2 offers two curriculum models for primary schools. Each model provides for a major and minor focus as well as the principal Christian focus. At Redland, the major focus is Islam and the minor focus is Judaism. In KS2 there will also be opportunities to study an ‘encounter’ faith such as Sikhism and Hinduism. There is a legal obligation to deliver Religious Education to FS2 children in accordance with the locally Agreed Syllabus and this programme of study links specifically to the ‘Early Learning Goals.’ Parents have the right to withdraw their child from RE lessons following a consultation with the Head Teacher.

Collective worship will take place in many forms on a daily basis for all pupils and will be an integral part of the life of the school.  Our act of collective worship will be predominantly Christian in character.  However, throughout the year there will be assemblies linked to other religions such as the Islam celebration of Eid and the Hindu celebration of Diwali.  Collective worship will concentrate largely on those inclusive beliefs, traditions and values that exemplify the ethos and community of the school.  Assemblies are led by all members of staff.  Parents have the right to withdraw their child from an act of collective worship following a consultation with the Head Teacher.
